Size Does Matter – How Big or Small Should a Corner Sofa Be?

What’s better than a cozy little space in your living room where you can enjoy a book or TV and sip a steaming cup of cocoa? A corner sofa that gives you the comfort of laying down and the beauty of a sofa too.

A luxury corner sofa might liven up your living room space, but only if its size is carefully selected. If the sofa is crammed in a small living room space or looks too lonely in a wide-open space, it ruins the aesthetics of the room. Also, it doesn’t deliver the warm, homey feeling that corner sofas should deliver.

So, size does matter when selecting a corner sofa. Here are the things that you should consider when you are selecting a corner sofa and would want it to be the perfect size:

1.      A Small Living Room

If your living room is small, you can only put up so many chairs and sofas to increase the seating space. A corner sofa is perfect for increasing space while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the room. If your living room has a window that looks out to a beautiful garden or a scenery, you should consider placing your corner sofa right in front of it. Nothing should cover the window, so the scenery is not ruined.

Its possible that you place a few bean bags or a table that has a low height to cover that wall space.

2.      A Room without many Windows

If your room is such that it doesn’t have many windows or exits, you should opt for a sofa that does increase the space, but at the same time, it doesn’t make the room look crammed.

Opting for a sectional sofa that isn’t too wide is the best choice since it gives the benefits of increasing the seating space but does not take up much space itself.

Make sure that you leave at least 3-5 inches of space from the back of the sofa and at least 18 inches space on either side of the sofa. If your sofa covers the entire wall, it will make the room look stuffy.

3.      Open Space Living Rooms

If you have a living room that has an open space, you should opt for a sectional sofa or a u-shaped sofa with 2 corner sofas to define the living room space. This way you can utilize the space while making the living room area seem stylish.

4.      Other Furniture

You obviously don’t only have seating space in your living room. You would also have a TV, a coffee table, or a TV stand in the living room area. Make sure that you have at least 30-36 inches space between the furniture pieces so that there is ample space to walk.

Remember: empty space is a part of the design, not unutilized space.

5.      The Use Intended

You obviously get enticed seeing luxurious corner sofa designs from furniture houses like the House of Bling, but don’t get carried away. If you intend to use the sofa only for lying down and reading or watching TV shows and movies on the weekend, you should opt for a corner sofa for one or two people. However, if you frequently have people over, you should consider going for a u-shaped sectional with two corners so it can easily accommodate the number of people you expect to host.

Final Words

Size does matter when it comes to selecting a corner sofa for your living room. It isn’t just the design and the material that you need to select. Make sure that you assess the space available and the intended use of the corner sofas so you can select the right size.
